Baseball Radio: Trevor Bauer, Clayton Kershaw, New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds

Major League Baseball made a statement by suspending Trevor Bauer for two seasons (324 games) under its domestic violence and sexual misconduct policy. Our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment begins with discussing the punishment and whether Bauer has any chance at returning to MLB.

On the field — with more pleasant topics — we also cover Clayton Kershaw setting the Los Angeles Dodgers career strikeout mark and whether or not he’s the franchise’s greatest pitcher, five New York Mets combining for a no-hitter (in addition to the team having the best record in the National League), and the abysmal Cincinnati Reds.

Since we didn’t have more time to talk about the Mets, here are some numbers to demonstrate how good they’ve been in compiling the NL’s best record (as of Monday):

  • NL’s second-best run differential (+34)
  • Scored the third-most runs in the NL (108)
  • Allowed the third-fewest runs in the NL (71)

There’s still plenty of season remaining but so far, the Mets have lived up to expectations and already have a six-game lead over the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves.
