Baseball Radio: Midseason Surprises and Disappointments, Juan Soto’s $500 Million Quest

Major League Baseball has reached its virtual midseason point, the All-Star break. That presents an opportunity on WISE Sports Radio to look back at the first half of the season. Which teams have surprised? Who are the disappointments?

And Juan Soto has become the talk of baseball by turning down a $440 million contract offer from the Washington Nationals. If he wants to be a $500 million man, which team will pay up? And who might offer a trade for the 23-year-old sensation?

For all the times I mentioned that Juan Soto is only 23 years old, I was reminded of this supposed Michael Caine line (from Get Carter?) that Steve Coogan imitated in The Trip.

Maybe Soto’s agent, Scott Boras, will get the “You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!” line when his young superstar client becomes a free agent and chases that $500 million deal.

You can stream The WISE Guys from 3 to 6 p.m. ET at wisesportsradio.com (courtesy of Mars Hill University) or the TuneIn app. Locally in the Asheville area, dial up 1310 or 970 AM and 102.9 FM. Thanks to Haywood County Farm Bureau Insurance for sponsoring the segment!
