Sports Radio: Blue Jays Fire Montoyo, Daniel Snyder Dodges Subpoena, RIP Heinz Field

It’s a slow time in the NFL with training camps set to open during the next seven to 10 days. So we began our WISE Sports Radio segment with some baseball talk, thanks to the Toronto Blue Jays’ surprising midseason firing of manager Charlie Montoyo.

On the football side, most of the news is off the field with Brett Favre continuing to be named in a welfare fraud lawsuit against the former governor of Mississippi, Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder avoiding a House Oversight Committee subpoena, and the Pittsburgh Steelers taking a big payday from a new corporate sponsor for their stadium.

NFL Radio: Texans Enabled Watson, Baker Moving On, McLaurin Gets His Payday

Deshaun Watson has been facing trouble for quite a while with 24 civil lawsuits (20 now settled) and a likely season-long suspension from the NFL. But his former team, the Houston Texans, might still have to answer for enabling the sexual misconduct allegations resulting from his “massages.”

On WISE Sports Radio, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I discuss the Texans getting sued, Baker Mayfield saying he and the Cleveland Browns have moved on, and Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin getting a top-10 salary for his position.

The upcoming 2022 season will be an important one for the Carolina Panthers with head coach Matt Rhule’s job likely at stake. The team’s quarterback play will be a major factor in success or failure, and Sam Darnold isn’t inspiring much confidence. Will rookie Matt Corral be the future answer?

On WISE Sports Radio, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I discuss the Panthers’ QB situation along with Colin Kaepernick working out for the Las Vegas Raiders, Jon Gruden’s lawsuit against the NFL, Baker Mayfield’s trade status, and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ new general manager.

NFL Radio: Eagles Flying, Keeping Baker Mayfield, Drew Brees Crisis, Tom Brady GROAT, Panthers Worst

Are the Philadelphia Eagles the NFL team to watch after adding Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry to their offseason reload? Are the Cleveland Browns better off keeping Baker Mayfield in case Deshaun Watson is suspended for sexual misconduct?

On WISE Sports Radio, we cover those topics along with Drew Brees’s job search, the Carolina Panthers ranking DFL in ESPN’s NFL power rankings, roastmaster Tom Brady, and the Buffalo Bills doing what they can to help their community after last week’s mass shooting.

NFL Radio: Baker Mayfield, Flores Lawsuit, Dwayne Haskins, Panthers’ Draft

The NFL offseason has slowed down a bit as the Draft approaches. That gave us the opportunity to catch up on a couple of stories during our WISE Sports Radio football segment: Namely, the shocking death of Dwayne Haskins and Brian Flores’ racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL.

Pat Ryan, Charlie Metcalf, and I also discussed what appears to be a fiercely competitive AFC West division, Baker Mayfield’s trade interest, and what the Carolina Panthers might do in the upcoming NFL Draft.

NFL Radio: Deshaun Watson Ruling, Eagles-Saints Trade, Stefon Diggs Contract

The NFL offseason is charging toward the annual player selection meeting (also known as the NFL Draft). But until then, Deshaun Watson’s sexual misconduct allegations will continue to be a topic.

On this week’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, we discuss what a Texas judge says Watson must do next. The Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints make an intriguing trade of draft picks. The Buffalo Bills extend their relationship with wide receiver Stefon Diggs. And some baseball talk involving the Atlanta Braves gets snuck in there at the end.
