Baseball WISE Sports Radio: Astros Win the World Series, Everybody Loves Dusty Baker

After a week off while Pat Ryan was on vacation, during which we missed the 2022 World Series, our weekly WISE Sports Radio chat covers the Houston Astros winning the World Series!

How did the Astros take over the series after the Phillies took a two-games-to-one lead? Could Philadelphia make another run next season? Houston almost certainly will. And maybe they’ll be managed again by Dusty Baker, the oldest manager to win a World Series at 73 years old.

Baseball WISE Sports Radio: Phillies vs. Astros in World Series

The Philadelphia Phillies have taken their improbable postseason run all the way to the World Series. On WISE Sports Radio, we chat about Bryce Harper’s star turn and how the Phillies are on the verge of a championship.

We also discuss the downfall of the New York Yankees and whether or not that will cost manager Aaron Boone his job. Elsewhere, the Texas Rangers surprised Major League Baseball by hiring veteran manager Bruce Bochy, who’s been retired for the past three years but boasts three World Series titles on his résumé.

Baseball Radio: Minor League Union, Mantle Card, Ichiro and Willie Mays Honored

Topics on this week’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment include a 1952 Mickey Mantle card going for $12.6 million, Justin Verlander’s calf injury, Ichiro being honored by the Seattle Mariners, a surprise number retirement for Willie Mays, and Paul Goldschmidt’s MVP-caliber season for the St. Louis Cardinals.

We also discuss the Major League Baseball Players Association giving minor-league players the opportunity to join their union, a benefit that is long overdue for a labor force that is woefully underpaid.

The Podcass 019: Movie tickets rant, Springsteen Cowboy, Astros awaken

The Podcass 018: Mini-Pod! Brady, Harbaugh, Cam, NFL Week 8

The week got away from us, schedule-wise, so it’s kind of a mini-Podcass and posting a day later than intended.

We’re all sports this time around with our NFL segment from WISE Sports Radio (06:45). We discuss the possibility that this is Tom Brady’s last season, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh shooting down speculation that he’ll return to the NFL, whether or not the Carolina Panthers could trade Cam Newton, and other Week 8 storylines to watch.

The Podcass 017: Zombieland 2 and a baseball triple tap

More sports than expected on the latest Podcass with Canadian friends and cancellations creating more time to talk baseball in anticipation of the World Series beginning.

But we do break up the baseball talk with zombies, more specifically a review of Zombieland: Double Tap (11:31). I feel like I’ve often been a zombie during October staying up late to watch these games, then getting up early to work (and working out before that). As mentioned, we preview the World Series with Edmonton’s TSN 1260 (03:21) and Asheville’s WISE Sports Radio (18:58). Then we close out with a chat on Baseball America’s report of a proposal to eliminate 42 minor league teams (28:00).

The Podcass 016: Double Will Smith, NFL Week 7, and the Nats!

We’ve been sports-heavy on The Podcass this week. Hey, October is packed with playoff baseball, college football and NFL, along with the beginnings of the NHL and NBA seasons. So I guess that’s reflected here.

But we break up that sports talk with a review of Will Smith’s double-take in Gemini Man (23:38). And it’s a week with two segments from WISE Sports Radio on our Friday show. First, we preview the big storylines going into Week 7 on the NFL schedule, including Jalen Ramsey getting traded to the Los Angeles Rams (04:37). Then, we close out with baseball talk, focusing on the amazing, improbable run of the Washington Nationals and the Yankees-Astros ALCS (33:59).

The Podcass 015: Lions suffer larceny at Lambeau

Glad The Podcass is on a Tuesday-Friday schedule, so we could have some near-instant response to the Detroit Lions’ 23-22 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. What a debacle, with the referees making several terrible calls that cost the Lions a chance to win at Lambeau Field and move near the top of the NFC standings.

We break down and complain about those terrible calls, two in particular against Detroit’s Trey Flowers (0:32). Then, our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment covers big wins by the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals in the MLB playoffs over the weekend (16:21). Did you miss those amid all the football action?
